PILATES AND BREATH
We often hear talk about the need to breathe properly, because breathing is the first action in life and the last, we know that breathing begins and ends our life. But at the same time, we do not think about its quality. We do not know how a person’s breathing occurs, we cannot teach our children to breathe correctly, we don’t know whether everything is in order with our personal breathing, whether we use it wisely or just interfere with the natural process in the best way that nature has laid down.
Unfortunately, most of us do not breathe properly. For many reasons.
We lead a sedentary lifestyle and do not create conditions for breathing “full breasts.” We rarely visit nature, in places with clean air – we breathe mainly indoors, in transport, in the city. We wear tight clothes that block our stomach, chest, thus preventing the body from breathing freely and fully. We do not monitor our posture, which affects the location of internal organs – in particular, the volume of the chest and the location of the lungs. We are constantly under stress, we think a lot, unconsciously developing the habit of breathing superficially, as in a stressful situation – including the superficial muscles of the neck, pulling up our shoulders, making short, sharp breaths and exhalations. In the end, we smoke, directly poisoning our respiratory system and gradually switching to the respiratory stereotype of a smoker.
In addition, there are various diseases, injuries, congenital abnormalities that interfere with full-fledged, natural breathing and require a person to know how to competently compensate for this.
If we recall that breathing is the basis of life and our health, then such a picture will seem extremely depressing. But what to do, you ask. I am already an adult, my habits are formed, I somehow live, breathe, how can I change all this …
The principle of breathing is one of the main ones in the Pilates system. The first thing Pilates training begins with is the organization of a competent body position and working out breathing. The trainer will determine your breathing type, tell you about its features and tell you how to improve your breathing. Special techniques will allow you to gently and imperceptibly connect to the work those muscles that for some reason do not know how to take part in your respiratory cycle. In addition, Pilates is a system that is built on the close relationship of movement and respiratory rhythm. This will allow you to learn how to control your breathing without hesitation in choosing it for the degree and type of load. Various Pilates exercises help you learn to direct your breathing to a particular zone, adapting to your body position and direction of movement. In addition, the Pilates exercise system as a whole focuses on opening the chest, correcting posture, removing blocks from the vertebrae, the ability to correctly use the diaphragm, muscles of the abdominal cavity. All this, of course, helps to improve breathing and its fullness.
And another important factor is the atmosphere of Pilates classes. Pilates will help you to get rid of problems during the lesson, live the moment “here and now”, calm down, release the clamps. Pilates teaches to awaken the internal energy of the body, to start its circulation, awakens the internal resources of the body. One of the important positive consequences of doing Pilates is the normalization of sleep, which will allow you to recover well after each day. All this is certainly the best effect on our breathing and health (both physical and mental) in general.
Joseph Pilates, the founder of the Pilates system, said: “You can not follow any of my other recommendations, but you must breathe correctly.” We sincerely wish you to feel what it means to breathe and live full breasts. And we are ready to help you with this.
Pilates – intellectual fitness: we do not teach exercises, we teach you a new conscious movement. The healing movement will change your life and the world around us.
